TRACK & FIELD SWEEPS MAAC WEEKLY HONORS

EDISON, NJ – For the first time in nearly two years, student-athletes from the Monmouth track & field teams have swept the MAAC weekly track & field awards. Redshirt senior Corey Murphy and senior Allison Taub repeat as Field Performers of the Week while graduate student Allie Wilson and junior Khalid Slocum were named Track Performers of the Week. Their strong performances at Lehigh University helped the Hawks win the Angry Birds Invitational this Saturday.

Taub, the reigning MAAC Field Performer of the Week, continued her impressive season by setting a new school record in the shot put with a mark of 50'2.5". She becomes the first female in program history to surpass the 50 feet mark for both indoor and outdoor. This mark is now the best in the MAAC on the young season and was more than seven feet further than the second place finisher.

Wilson, a 2nd team All-American in the 800 meters for the 2018 outdoor season, is honored by the conference for the first time this season. She helped the Hawks to a team victory at Lehigh with wins in the mile and the distance medley relay. Her winning time of 4:56.16 in the mile qualifies her for the ECAC Championships in March. Wilson also ran a leg for the DMR team that won the event in 12:01.17.

Slocum has turned his fantastic start of the season into his first MAAC weekly award after dominating both in sprints and the long jump at the Angry Birds Invitational. He won the 60-meter dash by crossing the line in 6.94 seconds, a IC4A qualifying time, and also went on to finish second in the 200-meter dash in 22.49 seconds.

Murphy was named the Field Performer of the Week after once again dominating in the shot put at the Angry Birds Invitational. He finished as the top collegian in the event with a throw of 60'6.75", which currently tops the list for MAAC student-athletes this season. That mark puts him in a group of a dozen NCAA athletes to eclipse the 60 feet mark in the shot put this season.

The Hawks will return to action this weekend with two meets at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY. On Friday, a group of athletes will compete in the NYC Gotham Cup while majority of the team will compete at the Penn 8-Team Select on Saturday.
