PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Monmouth University women's soccer team overcame an early deficit and knocked off Rutgers, 2-1, on Friday evening at Yurcak Stadium.

The Scarlet Knights scored quickly to secure the early advantage in the eighth minute when Amirah Ali fired from just beyond the penalty area that deflected off the fingertips of a diving Amanda Knaub.

Monmouth responded and tied the game 15 minutes later when Alli DeLuca capitalized on a blocked shot off the foot of Jill Conklin. The far post shot was DeLuca's third goal of the season.

After grabbing the momentum, Monmouth took the lead for good in the 30th minute as Lexie Palladino put home a shot from the top of the 18-yard box.

The score held at 2-1 for the remainder of the match as goalie Amanda Knaub made five of her six saves in the second half to lock up the win for the Hawks.
