MEN’S TENNIS ADVANCES TO MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The Monmouth University men's tennis team advanced to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship after sweeping Fairfield in the semifinals today, 4-0. The newly honored MAAC Player of the Year Nicola Pipoli handled business at No. 1 singles, earning the 6-3, 6-1 win. Junior Srdjan Jakovljevic earned the 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Freshman Will Cooke Wharton, who was just named MAAC Rookie of the Year, clinched the win for Monmouth at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-3. The Hawks won the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Senior Ale Gomez Estrada teamed up with junior Alberto Giuffrida for the 6-2 win in the second flight, and Jakovljevic teamed up with sophomore Sergio Martinez for the 6-1 win in the third. In a rematch of last season's championship, the Hawks will face No. 3 Marist tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
