MEN’S LACROSSE KNOCKS OFF CANISIUS, 13-12

BUFFALO –  Four goals by Dylan Schulte and a 12-save performance by Noah Lode helped the Monmouth men's lacrosse defeat Canisius on Friday afternoon at Demske Sports Complex.

The Hawks dug themselves out of a 3-0 hole with a four-goal spurt to take the lead in the first quarter. Monmouth and Canisius traded goals and the Hawks took a 10-8 lead into the halftime break after Schulte scored his second goal with 4.1 seconds remaining on the second-quarter clock.

Canisius opened the third quarter like it began the game and tied the score at 10 five minutes into the second half. The Griffs scored all three goals in the third quarter and took an 11-10 advantage into the final 15 minutes.

Schulte tied the game with 8:27 remaining, then gave Monmouth the lead for good with his fourth consecutive goal four minutes later. Anthony Sardo scored with a minute to go to give Monmouth a two-goal lead, but Canisius quickly scored on the ensuing faceoff to make it 13-12. Lode made two critical saves in the final 20 seconds to seal the win.

- Monmouth improved to 7-7 on the season and 4-2 in the MAAC.
- The Hawks ended the regular season with a .500 or better record for the third consecutive year.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Dylan Schulte set new career-highs with four goals and five points. He recorded his fourth-career hat trick and his third of the season. He increased his 2018 season total to 16 goals and now has 46 for his career.
- Bryce Wasserman scored once and handed out four assists to set Monmouth's single-season assists record with 17.
- Wasserman leads Monmouth with 34 goals and 51 points on the year and has 99 career goals. He also has 149 career points.
- Wasserman extended his program-best points streak to 30 games and his goals streak to 16 straight games.
- Wasserman now has 17 points in three-career games against Canisius.
- Anthony Sardo registered his first-career hat trick. The sophomore now has five goals this season and 12 for his career.
- Casey Kimmel and Zach Clemente each scored twice for the Hawks. Kimmel's two goals were a career high and Clemente recorded his fourth-career multi goal game.
- Chandler Vanderbeek scored his third goal of the season and set a new career-high with 15 faceoff wins on 23 opportunities. The senior collected a team-high seven ground balls in the win.
- Vanderbeek's 15 faceoff wins are tied for the second most in team history and the 15 wins are the most since Monmouth won 16 against Siena on March 25, 2017.
- Freshman Noah Lode made 12 saves in goal for Monmouth. It was Lode's 11th double-digit save performance of the season.
- Lode now has 160 saves on the year, the most for a freshman goalie and the second-most in team history behind Nick Hreshko's 177 in 2017.
- Monmouth's 10 first-half goals were the most since the Hawks scored 11 in the first half at Siena on March 31.

Monmouth will host the 2018 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship beginning Thursday, May 3 at Kessler Stadium. The No. 3 seed Hawks will face No. 2 Detroit Mercy at 3 p.m. following No. 1 Quinnipiac vs. No. 4 Canisius at noon and the games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
