MEN’S LACROSSE SEASON ENDS IN MAAC SEMIFINAL

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Detroit Mercy scored the game's final seven goals to upend the Monmouth University men's lacrosse team, 12-9, in the MAAC Tournament Semifinal on Thursday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.

The Hawks built a 9-5 lead on Zach Clemente's second goal of the game with 8:31 to play in the fourth quarter, before the Titans turned on the offense. Detroit Mercy scored four times over the next four minutes to tie the game.

Matthew Vangalen's goal with 2:38 to play, his third of the game, put the Titans ahead for good as they added a pair of late insurance goals to run the final tally to 12-9.

GAME NOTES
- Monmouth ends its 2018 season with a 7-8 record.
- The Hawks participated in the MAAC Tournament for the fourth straight season.
- Detroit Mercy leads the all-time series against Monmouth, 5-2.
- Sophomore Anthony Sardo made his first-career start on attack for Monmouth.
- The Hawks wore their chrome midnight blue helmets with midnight blue jerseys and shorts.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Freshman Noah Lode equaled his career high with 16 saves in goal for Monmouth. It was Lode's 12th double-digit save performance of the season.
- Lode finished with has 176 saves on the year, the most for a freshman goalie and the second-most in team history behind Nick Hreshko's 177 in 2017.
- Casey Kimmel and Zach Clemente each scored twice for the Hawks. Kimmel's two goals equaled his career high and Clemente recorded his fifth-career multi goal game.
- Griffin Figel put in one goal to give him 19 on the year, good for second on the team. Figel has 34 career goals.
- Dylan Schulte scored once for the Hawks. He finished with 17 goals in 2018 and 47 for his career.
- Dan Bloodgood put in one goal to give him eight on the year and 46 for his career.
- Anthony Sardo scored once. He has six goals this season and 13 for his career.
- Sean Tornetta scored his fourth goal of the season and the sixth of his career.
- Faceoffs favored Detroit Mercy 17-8 and ground balls were 37-22 in favor of the Titans.

Monmouth's 2018 season ends with a 7-8 overall record. No. 2 Detroit Mercy will play No. 4 Canisius on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Kessler Stadium on ESPNU.
