POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Monmouth University men's tennis team clinched the number one seed in next weekend's MAAC Tournament with a win over Marist today, 5-2. Junior Nicola Pipoli earned the 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against reigning MAAC Player of the Year Javier Restrepo. Pipoli also won at No. 1 doubles with teammate Will Cooke Wharton, 7-5. Senior Ale Gomez Estrada won 6-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles as well as No. 2 doubles with teammate Max Benaim. Sophomore Sergio Martinez took home the 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles and also won at No. 3 doubles with teammate Srdjan Jakovljevic, 6-4. The Hawks improved to 13-13 (7-0 MAAC) on the season, and will face No. 4 Fairfield in the MAAC Championships semifinals on Saturday.
