Behind sophomore
Taylor Nason's first career double-double and junior
Erica Balman's career-high 12 points, Monmouth held on to defeat hOURglass rival Rider on Saturday afternoon, 63-56. Nason registered 12 points (6-7 FG) and 12 rebounds in the win, while Balman narrowly missed her first career double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Monmouth outscored the Broncs 24-8 in the first quarter and held on despite being outscored 48-39 in the final three quarters. The team will travel to Siena on Monday looking for their second straight win.
SCOUTING THE SIENA SAINTS
Siena's five-game winning streak was snapped by Marist on Saturday night. The Saints previously defeated Marist, Iona, Fairfield, Manhattan, and Saint Peter's. The team is led by senior guard Kollyns Scarbrough, who averages 16.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Maddie Sims is second on the squad with 8.8 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. The Saints feature seven different players that average at least 5.0 points per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SIENA
The teams are currently locked at nine wins apiece, but the Saints won both matchups last season, including a 91-86 overtime thriller in West Long Branch.
Kayla Shaw scored a career-high 24 points in that game, hitting seven three-pointers. At the Times Union Center, Siena earned the 85-76 win despite 19 points from Shaw.
Alaina Jarnot added 13 points and five assists in the loss.
