HAWKS FALL TO LEAGUE-LEADING QUINNIPIAC, 77-57

HAMDEN, CT  – In the last game of the regular season, Quinnipiac defeated the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon, 77-57. Senior Rhaiah Spooner-Knight scored 17 points in the loss, and scored 41 total in the Hawks' final two games. Sophomore Alexa Middleton added 10 points and five rebounds in the loss, while sophomore Rosa Graham totaled a career-high eight assists. The Hawks outshot Quinnipiac 44.2% to 42.9%, but Quinnipiac had 18 more shot attempts from Monmouth's 21 turnovers. The Bobcats ended the regular season on a 19-game winning streak, including a perfect 18-0 MAAC record. Monmouth ends the regular season with a 9-20 (7-11 MAAC) record, and will face No. 8 Canisius in the first round of the MAAC Tournament on Thursday.

-Monmouth took the 10-7 lead with 4:27 left in the first quarter with an Arfinengo triple. Quinnipiac then used a 12-4 run to go ahead 19-14 with 1:31 remaining.
-After the Hawks tied the game at 19, Quinnipiac hit a buzzer-beater at the end of the first, holding a 21-19 advantage into the second.
-Quinnipiac opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to go ahead 28-19, but Monmouth battled back with a 7-0 run of its own. With 4:03 left in the first half, the Bobcats held the slight 28-26 advantage.
-Following a Barker mid-range jumper, Monmouth tied the game at 28. Quinnipiac closed the quarter on a 7-0 run, however, to take a 35-28 lead into halftime.
-Spooner-Knight caught fire in the beginning of the third quarter, scoring eight straight points. Quinnipiac had an answer to each Monmouth basket though, and took a 47-38 lead with 6:55 left in the third.
-Quinnipiac started to pull away at the end of the third quarter, eventually taking a 63-45 lead into the final frame.
-The Bobcats kept the foot on the gas in the fourth quarter, and took the 20-point win after a 14-12 fourth quarter advantage.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Spooner-Knight scored in double-figures for the team-leading 19th time this season.
-Middleton scored in double figures for the fourth time this season.
-Graham's eight assists are the most by any Monmouth player since 12/10/2015 (Jamiyah Bethune).
-Monmouth held the 38-15 advantage in bench points.
-The Bobcats hit 10 three-pointers to Monmouth's five.
-Quinnipiac outscored Monmouth 28-17 in the third quarter.
 
UP NEXT
The No. 9 seed Monmouth Hawks will face the No. 8 seed Canisius Golden Griffins in the first round of the MAAC Tournament on Thursday, March 1. Tipoff is slated for 9:30 AM. Canisius took both games during the regular season, with a 60-48 win in West Long Branch on January 20 and a 62-50 advantage in Buffalo on February 16.
