Rhaiah Spooner-Knight's three-pointer with 1:45 left tied the game at 57, and Monmouth outscored Manhattan in overtime, 6-2, to earn their second straight win on Monday, 63-59. Spooner-Knight notched a season-high 25 points in the win, including 11-16 (69%) from the floor. The Hawks battled back from an 18-11 deficit after the first quarter, and shot 24-50 (48%) to earn their second thrilling home win in three days. The game saw 11 lead changes, but the Hawks came up with big defensive stops late to force the overtime period. Monmouth improved to 8-17 (6-8 MAAC) on the season, and travels to Buffalo this weekend for contests against Canisius and Niagara.
SCOUTING THE CANISIUS GOLDEN GRIFFINS
With Monmouth coming in on a two-game winning streak, Canisius has dropped its last two games at Quinnipiac and Marist. The Golden Griffins have an identical record as the Hawks at 8-17 (6-8 MAAC). The team is led by junior forward Sara Hinriksdottir, who averages 14.0 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. Maria Welch adds 8.7 points per game and leads the squad with 38 three-pointers. Margaret Halfdanardottir registers 8.1 points per game to go along with 55 assists.
