HAWKS COMPLETE COMEBACK OVER NAVY IN FINAL SECONDS

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – After trailing by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, the Monmouth University women's basketball stormed back to earn a late win over Navy, 68-67. Junior Sierra Green led the way with 26 points on 8-12 from beyond the arc, matching a program record for three-pointers in a single game. Freshman Lucy Thomas registered her second career double-double, adding 15 points, 10 rebounds, and the game-winning free throw with 12 seconds remaining. The Hawks outscored the Mids 44-31 in the second half, and went 9-12 from the floor in the final quarter. Junior Alexa Middleton scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win, while junior Rosa Graham went for nine points and six assists. Monmouth improves to 4-6 on the season, and will host Loyola on Saturday afternoon for the non-conference finale.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES
"The biggest thing is I just think we battled. We had to find a way to compete. Once we did that, things started to go our way and we started to make some shots. -Monmouth jumped out to a 7-5 lead, but Navy answered with a 9-0 run to go ahead 14-7.
-The Hawks later used an 8-0 run to take a 17-16 advantage at the end of one. Monmouth outrebounded Navy 12-5 in the frame, and shot 46% from the field.
-The Mids scored the first six points of the second quarter, taking a 22-17 lead. The Hawks did not score in the second frame until at the 4:47 mark.
-In total, Navy outscored the Hawks 20-7 in the second quarter, and took a 36-24 lead into halftime.
-After falling behind by 14 points, the Hawks started to battle back led by two more Green triples. With 4:15 left in the third quarter, the Hawks trailed 40-34.
-Monmouth ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run, and in total outscored Navy 22-12 in the frame. Heading into the fourth, the Mids held the slight 48-46 lead.
-The Hawks matched their largest lead of the game came with 4:30 left in the fourth, as a Middleton layup put Monmouth up 58-54.
-Down one with 1:20 left, Green hit her eighth three-pointer of the night.
-Navy tied it up at 67 with 16 seconds left, and Thomas made one of two free throws with 12 ticks left to give Monmouth the one-point lead. Navy's last effort with one second left was off the mark, and junior Taylor Nason grabbed the final rebound.
 
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Green tied Niamh Dwyer (2/14/05) for the most single-game three-pointers in program history. She made 5+ three-pointers for the third time this season, and scored 20+ points for the third time this year.
-In just 10 career games, Thomas has two double-doubles. Her first came against ECU on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
-Middleton scored in double-figures for the first time this season, and the ninth time of her career.
-The Hawks shot 16-27 (59.3%) in the second half after going 8-26 (30.8%) in the first half.
-There were 12 lead changes in the contest, and the game was tied seven different times.
-Monmouth trailed for 29:37.
-Monmouth's bench had a 25-5 advantage.

The Hawks will play their third straight home game against Loyola (MD) on Saturday. Tip from the OceanFirst Bank Center is set for noon.
