MONMOUTH BASEBALL FALLS LATE AT CANISIUS SUNDAY, 11-10

BUFFALO, NY- Monmouth baseball got another big offensive performance from Pete Papcun (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) but a late Canisius rally lifted the Golden Griffins over the Hawks, 11-10 in the rubber game of the weekend series Sunday afternoon.

MU jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Papcun RBI triple, but the Griffs posted a four-run bottom of the inning, scoring on three RBI singles and a sacrifice fly. The Hawks responded in the third with a four-run frame including two home runs, a two-run shot from freshman Danny Long (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) and a three-run blast from Papcun. Each team scored a pair in the fourth, and MU led 8-6 before Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Malvern Prep) made it 10-6 with a two-run home run in the seventh.

Canisius scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the eighth to take an 11-10 lead, with Ryan Stekl making it a one-run game with an two-run single before Liam Wilson also hit a two-RBI single to put the home team up 11-10.
