CLEARWATER, FL – During the second day of the Under Armour Showcase in Florida, the Monmouth University softball team was outlasted by Army, 11-6, before falling in eight innings to Villanova, 3-2. The Hawks built early leads in both games, including a 4-0 advantage against Army and a 2-0 advantage over Villanova. Using ten runs from the third and fourth inning, Army took the lead for good and earned the five-run win. Monmouth and Villanova needed extra innings to decide the contest, and the Wildcats scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Hawks drop to 2-9 on the season and will play one game against USC Upstate tomorrow.

NOTES AND QUOTES

“Against Army, we got off to a strong start. We created opportunities for them thought, and they took advantage. It was disappointing that it took until the seventh inning to mount a comeback, but I am proud of the fight we showed. Game two was an excellent game. Our team played well in all phases. While we are disappointed in the outcome, we believe we can build from it. The team truly put themselves on the line and took a huge step in our development.”– Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg
