WOMEN’S SOCCER SUFFERS FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS

FINAL SCORE
Marist 2 (7-7-2, 4-3-1 MAAC)
Monmouth 1 (9-3-2, 6-1-0 MAAC)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's soccer team lost its first conference match of the 2017 season, a 2-1 defeat to Marist, on Wednesday night at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

Following a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Red Foxes wasted no time in finding the back of the net in the second half. Keri Bradley turned a Brianna Robinson pass into a goal and put Monmouth behind for the first time since its match against Drexel on Sept. 8.

Marist sat back and defended its lead as the rain intensified and Monmouth controlled the action. The Hawks finally broke through when Madie Gibson fed a low cross toward the near post for Jazlyn Moya, who turned and beat the Marist keeper to level the score at a goal apiece.

The match seemed destined for extra time, but it was Marist that found the game-winning goal with 1:16 to play. Bradley's attempt set up Jillian Colucci, who beat Amanda Knaub to end Monmouth's winning streak.
