LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Freshman Victoria Nugent (Elsinboro, NJ/Pennsville Memorial) earned a three-set victory at No. 3, but a shorthanded Monmouth University women's tennis team fell at Rider, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-2 (0-1 MAAC), while the Broncs are now 2-1 (1-1 MAAC). 

Nugent defeated Caitlin Gardner, 7-6 (1), 3-6, 10-4, at No. 3 to earn the Hawks' lone point in the match. The Hawks played with just five players, forfeiting both a singles point and the third of three doubles flights. Rider took the remaining singles matches in straight sets and cruised at the top two doubles flights. 

The Hawks return to action Thursday, when they play host to Sacred Heart at 3:30 p.m.
