Victoria Nugent (Elsinboro, NJ/Pennsville Memorial) earned a three-set victory at No. 4, but the Monmouth University women's tennis team fell to Wagner, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the MU Outdoor Tennis Complex. With the loss in their dual match opener, the Hawks fall to 0-1, while the Seahawks improved to 2-1.
Nugent defeated Rina Baynes, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1, at No. 4 to earn the Hawks' lone point in the match. Wagner swept the doubles point. Nugent and senior
Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) forced a tie-breaker, but fell to Samantha Hodges and Madison Pautsch, 7-6 (6), at No. 2 doubles.

Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio [Maryville]) and sophomore
Alexandra Graff (Bastad, Sweden/IMG Academy) were also competitive at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, each forcing a third set. Armendariz fell to Avika Sagwal, 2-6, 6-3, 10-3, at No. 1, while Graff fell to Vedika Anand, 6-3, 6-7, 10-7, at No. 2.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, when they travel to Delaware State. First serve from Dover is slated for noon.
