WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Senior Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio [Maryville]) won at the top singles and doubles flights, but the Monmouth University women's tennis team fell at home Tuesday afternoon, 4-2, to Delaware State. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-10 on the season, while the Hornets improve to 9-3.  

Armendariz paired with Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) to defeat Aayushi Chouhan and Milan Graves, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles, but the Hornets took the second and third flights and the doubles point. Elvira Galieva and Yelyzaveta Bessonova defeated Alexandra Graff (Bastad, Sweden/IMG Academy) and Maria Ivanova (Moscow, Russia/IMG Academy), 6-4, at No. 2, while Colleen Beck and Maria Rachi took a 6-3 victory at No. 3 over Chioma Gabriel (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and Grace Wills (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional [Brookdale C.C.]).  

Armendariz made quick work of Graves, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Graff soundly defeated Bessonova, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2. But the Hornets came away with the remaining three wins they'd need to clinch the victory at Nos. 3, 4 and 6. Galieva defeated Gabriel, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 before Rachi pulled out a 6-4, 6-4, victory over Kauffman at No. 4. Beck also defeated Wills in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, to win the match.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Wagner. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
