WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –
Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio [Maryville]) and
Grace Wills (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional [Brookdale C.C.]) earned singles victories, but the Monmouth University women's tennis team was defeated by Hofstra, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the MU Outdoor Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 6-14, while the Pride improves to 11-6.
The Pride swept the doubles point. Sarah Bowen and Carmen Pestano defeated Armendariz and
Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), 6-3, at No. 1, while Michal Kaplan and Sarah Catherine Herndon got past
Alexandra Graff (Bastad, Sweden/IMG Academy) and
Maria Ivanova (Moscow, Russia/IMG Academy), 6-2, at No. 2.
Chioma Gabriel (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and
Rayne Ruoff (Reading, PA/Exeter Twp Sr.) pushed Salini Jariwala and Giulia Leone at No. 3, but fell, 7-5.
Wills made quick work of Jariwala at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Armendariz defeated Bowen in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 10-3, at No. 1. But the Pride took the remaining four singles flights to win the match, 5-2.
The Hawks wrap up the regular season Sunday, when they play host to former league foe Mount St. Mary's.
