HAMDEN, CT – The Monmouth University women's tennis team fell at defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon on the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 6-13 (2-5 MAAC), while the Bobcats improve to 9-10 (4-0 MAAC).
The Bobcats won the doubles point with a 6-1 victory at No. 2, before taking a pair of 6-3 wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Sophia Dzulynsky and Sitilia Renchelli defeated
Alexandra Graff (Bastad, Sweden/IMG Academy) and
Maria Ivanova (Moscow, Russia/IMG Academy) at No. 2, while Rachel Horton and Sydney Young were victorious at No. 1 over
Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio [Maryville]) and
Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) at No. 1. Jennifer Lu and Proyfon Lohaphaisan defeated
Chioma Gabriel (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and
Rayne Ruoff (Reading, PA/Exeter Twp Sr.) at No. 3.
Monmouth's best singles matches came at Nos. 1 and 6. Armendariz fell to Dzulynsky, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1, while
Grace Wills (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional [Brookdale C.C.]) fell to Alexandra Mircea by the same score at No. 6. The Bobcats took all six matches in straight sets.
The Hawks return to action Friday, when they play host to Hofstra. First serve from the MU Outdoor Tennis Complex is slated for 3 p.m.
