BUFFALO, NY – Monmouth University women's basketball team was defeated by Canisius on Sunday afternoon, 74-54, as the Golden Griffins shot 32-60 (53.3%) from the field and 7-15 (46.7%) from three. In comparison, Monmouth shot 22-73 (30.1%) and 4-26 (15.4%) from deep. Freshman Taylor Nason went into double-digits for the first time in her young career, scoring 11 points and adding a career-high nine rebounds. The Hawks drop to 2-5 on the year and will set their sights on non-conference opponent Sacred Heart for a 6:00 PM matchup on Thursday night.

-Canisius never trailed in the contest, scoring 14 seconds into the game and holding the lead throughout.
-At the end of the first quarter, Monmouth trailed by just five with the score 20-15, but the Golden Griffins jumped out to a 46-26 lead by halftime.
-Canisius built its largest lead with 9:06 remaining in the game, going up 26 with the score at 71-45.
-Three Canisius players totaled 48 points in the win, as Sara Hinriksdottir scored 17, Margret Halfdanardottir added 16 and Saliah Serrette scored 15.
-Freshmen Taylor Nason and Rosa Graham each played a career high in minutes, with Nason at 29 and Graham at 28.
-Ten Hawks saw the floor for at least 11 minutes and 12 total played in the game.
-Senior Christina Mitchell played in her 100th career game, contributing three rebounds and three blocks in the loss.
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Nason led the way for Monmouth, as her 11 points came on 5-8 from the floor.
-Graham added nine points and six rebounds in the loss.
-Freshman Kayla Shaw scored seven points while senior Tyese Purvis added five points. Both Shaw and Purvis have made at least one three-pointer in all seven games this year.
-Freshman Alexa Middleton had six points and grabbed four rebounds in just 13 minutes.
-Canisius registered 23 assists on the afternoon compared to Monmouth's 9.
-Monmouth grabbed 17 offensive rebounds over Canisius' 7, but the Golden Griffins secured 37 defensive rebounds while the Hawks had just 21.
-Monmouth made just four three-pointers on 25 attempts. Coming into Sunday, the Hawks had been averaging 9.8 three-point field goals made per game, which ranked eighth in the country.
