WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OUTLASTED BY CLEMSON SATURDAY, 60-47

Monmouth (1-2, 0-0) - 47

Clemson (4-0, 0-0) - 60

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Despite outscoring Clemson in the second, third, and fourth quarters, Monmouth University's women's basketball team was defeated 60-47 on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers led 23-5 at the end of the first quarter and sustained that lead until the very end, as Danielle Edwards' 15 second-half points propelled Clemson to a 4-0 record.  In Monmouth's first home game of the season, senior Tyese Purvis dropped 17 points, including five three-pointers. The Hawks fall to 1-2 on the season and will have a week off before traveling to Bethlehem, PA for the Turkey Day Tourney.

NOTES AND QUOTES

“Any time we can attract a team like Clemson to come here, it's a great experience for our team. In the first quarter, we had some open shots but we missed them. When you play a team like Clemson, they have so many athletic players. They're bigger and longer, so it changes the rhythm of our shots and I think that resulted in those missed shots. They hit some big shots and all of a sudden we looked up and were down 20. After that, we were able to outscore them in the next three quarters. Once we adjusted and knew what we were dealing with, our team did a great job of adjusting. I'm really proud of our last three quarters.” – Monmouth head coach Jenny Palmateer

-Clemson built its largest lead with 1:20 left in the first quarter, going up by 21 after a Danielle Edwards free throw.

-Monmouth cut the deficit to six with 4:29 left in the second quarter, as freshman Alexa Middleton connected on a layup from fellow freshman Kayla Shaw.

-After Danielle Edwards extended the lead to eight with 3:56 left, the two teams traded threes before Edwards scored the last five points of the game, putting the game out of reach and sealing the 13-point win.

-Clemson had 26 points in the paint ahead of Monmouth's 10, and the Tigers outrebounded the Hawks 47-33 in the contest.

-Monmouth drops to 0-12 all-time against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.

NUMBERS CRUNCH

-Monmouth senior Tyese Purvis has scored in double-figures in all three games this season, scoring 15 at Robert Morris, 14 at St. Francis Brooklyn, and 19 versus Clemson on Saturday afternoon. Purvis' nine three-pointers this year gives her 76 for her career. The senior needs six more threes to move into 11th in program history.

-Freshman Taylor Nason earned her first career start on Saturday, grabbing another eight rebounds. Nason is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game through the first three.

-Purvis played a career-high 37 minutes against Clemson. Her previous career-high came last year when Monmouth hosted Eastern Michigan, playing 35 minutes.
