Monmouth opens its 2016-17 campaign in Moon Township, PA for a matchup with the Robert Morris Colonials. This will be the 59th meeting between the teams, with the Hawks having the advantage over Robert Morris in 35 contests. After finishing t-fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last year with a loss in the semifinals, the Hawks were picked seventh in the 2016-17 Preseason Coaches' Poll. Losing four of its five top scorers from last season, Monmouth added eight new players to fill the void.

SCOUTING THE ROBERT MORRIS COLONIALS

Defending Northeast Conference Tournament Champion Robert Morris went 20-13 last year and returns four starters. Included in the returning corps is Anna Niki Stamalamprou, who averaged 13.7 points and 5.5 rebounds last season. Megan Smith (7.8 ppg., 5.7 rpg.) also returns in new Head Coach Charlie Buscaglia's first year as head coach, replacing father, Sal, who retired at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season. On Friday afternoon, the Colonials handled Point Park 69-52 at home. Janee Brown and Megan Smith each scored 19 points in the win. Smith added 13 rebounds.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. ROBERT MORRIS

The Hawks lead the all-time series with the Colonials, 35-23. Monmouth has reignited a home-in-home with Robert Morris after not meeting during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Before losing to the Colonials last year, Monmouth had registered three straight wins.

LAST TIME AGAINST ROBERT MORRIS

In last season's home opener, Robert Morris defeated the Hawks 60-47 in West Long Branch despite 11 point performances from seniors Sarah Olson and Jamiyah Bethune. McKinzee Barker added six points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Hawks, while Jasmine Walker chipped in with nine points. Dana Carbone hit a pair of three-pointers for six points.
