WASHINGTON, DC – Monmouth University (4-2, 0-1 Big South) outscored Howard University (1-5, 1-2 MEAC) 59-27 at Greene Stadium on Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Hawks offense rolled up 562 yards with six different players scoring on the afternoon. Monmouth featured a pair of 100-yard rushers in the game, coming from senior Ed Royds' (Medford, NJ/Shawnee/Navy) 129 yards and junior Michael Jolly's (Leesburg, VA) 118. The offensive line led the way for 343 yards on the ground while Cody Williams (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) threw for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns in just one half of work.
With the Hawks lead 31-14 at halftime, redshirt freshman Kenji Bahar (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) took over under center but needed to throw just five passes. Reggie White Jr. (Randallstown, MD/Milford Mill) had five receptions for a touchdown while Darren Ambush (Dickerson, MD/Urbana) had three catches for 37 yards.
The bulk of Howard's offensive production came from running back Anthony Philyaw who ran for 234 of the Bison's 372 yards and scored three of the four Bison touchdowns. Junior Kyle Gregory (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) led the Hawks with a career high six tackles while Mike Basile (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) had five.
