EASTON, PA – Seniors Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio [Maryville]) and Chioma Gabriel (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) won twice each as the Monmouth University women's tennis team earned its first win of the season over Lafayette by a 4-3 score on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks improve to 1-2 on the year, while the Leopards (0-1) dropped their first dual match of the season. 

Monmouth took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Armendariz and sophomore Maria Ivanova (Moscow, Russia/IMG Academy) paired to defeat Katie Hill and Rocine Moschella, 6-2, at No. 2, while Gabriel and freshman Caroline Mattise (Clarks Green, PA/Abington Heights) defeated Gabby Montes and Haley Matthes, 6-3, at No. 3. 

Senior Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored a 6-2, 6-2, victory at No. 3 singles to put the Hawks on top, 2-0, before Gabriel defeated Meredith Block, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4. Armendariz bounced back from a first-set loss, 6-3, to win the second and third sets, each by 6-0 margins, to clinch the match. 

The Hawks return to action Thursday against Sacred Heart in a make-up of a match regularly scheduled for Sept. 29.
