WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Monmouth University junior Darren Ambush (Dickerson, Md./Urbana) has been selected as one of 52 players nationally to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.

Ambush, a homeland security major, earned First Team All-Big South honors after finishing third in the conference in reception yards and yards per game. Ambush picked up his first league honors after finishing first on the Hawks and third in the conference in reception yards and reception yards per game. The junior hauled in 49 receptions for 614 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 107 yards and a score. His 881 all-purpose yards was second on the Hawks and eighth among Big South players and second among conference wideouts. The Dickerson, MD product finished with three-100 yard performances in his third year for the Blue & White.

Off the field he owns a 3.51 grade point average and will graduate in the Spring of 2017.
Ambush was one of four players to earn the honor from the Big South Conference. He is the eighth Hawk to be named to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team.

Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.

Previous Monmouth players on the team include two-time winners Andrew Sutton, Kevin Walsh and Andrew Musick as well as Aaron Edwards, Mike McLelland, Eric Spillane and Jon Stolarz.
