MEN'S SOCCER EARNS 1-0 ROAD WIN AT HOLY CROSS

Box Score WORCESTER, MA – Senior midfielder John Egan (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge) broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 51st minute and junior goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky (Lincoln Park, NJ/DePaul Catholic) made six saves as the Monmouth University men's soccer team defeated Holy Cross, 1-0, Saturday night at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-3-1, while the Crusaders drop to 2-3-2.

“I'm really proud of the guys,” said Monmouth Head Coach Robert McCourt. “We've had a bunch of difficult games in a row and to come to Holy Cross and play against a very good team and get a result on the road shows a lot of character. It was a gut-check win for our guys and we hope to continue to build on it.”

Following a scoreless first half, the Hawks got what proved to be the game-winning goal early in the second half. Egan and Anderson Asiedu (Dormaa Ahenkro, Ghana/St. Benedict's) worked a give-and-go into the box, with Egan finishing on one touch from five yards in front of the net to beat Holy Cross goalkeeper Kevin Wright.

Klenofsky was credited with four of his six saves in the second half to preserve the clean sheet. The Hawks have now posted consecutive shutouts and three in their last four games.

Monmouth returns to action Tuesday, when it plays host to intrastate foe Seton Hall. The 7 p.m. kickoff will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
