WASSERMAN'S SIX GOALS LEADS MONMOUTH TO 10-7 WIN OVER CANISIUS

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Freshman Bryce Wasserman (Southlake, Texas/Grapevine Faith), who scored three of his game-high six goals in the fourth quarter, registered seven points to lead the Monmouth University men's lacrosse team to a 10-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) victory over Canisius on Saturday afternoon at Monmouth Stadium.

Wasserman, who has scored at least a point in all 10 games this season, set a program-record with his six goals and seven points in a single-game versus the Golden Griffins, as the Hawks improve to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in league play. The rookie, who has 12 points in the last two games, leads Monmouth with 19 goals and 26 points.

"I am proud of the guys and the way in which we prepared this week after a tough loss on Tuesday night, to come back and earn the victory today," stated head coach Brian Fisher. "Our offense is really starting to come together as the guys are playing loose and confident, and we were much improved today in many areas between the lines that really helped us."

The Hawks led the Griffs 6-5 heading into the fourth quarter before John Castellano (Eastchester, N.Y./Iona Prep) and Wasserman each registered unassisted tallies to put Monmouth in front 8-5 with 10:08 left. Canisius rallied to climb within a score, as Tim Edwards recorded a pair of assists, as the Griffins trailed 8-7 with 7:26 remaining.

After Canisius got within one, Monmouth answered 19 seconds later, as Wasserman scored off a pass from Castellano and then notched an unassisted score with 2:50 left, to push the Blue & White ahead 10-7.

Canisius outshot Monmouth 34-28, as senior goalkeeper Garrett Conaway (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) notched 12 saves, his seventh game with double-digit stops.

CC took an 1-0 lead in the first quarter, before Chris Daly (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) turned a Wasserman pass into a goal with 3:21 showing. In a seven-goal second period, Wasserman, Zach Johannes (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXII) and Ryan Schwartz (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) each gave the Hawks a one-goal advantage, before Wasserman's score with 2:11 on the clock gave Monmouth a 5-3 advantage, as the Hawk led 5-4 at the intermission.

Monmouth returns to action on April 11, when the Hawks travel to Detroit to face the Titans in MAAC action at 11:00 a.m.
