RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Monmouth University women's tennis team split its weekend matches at George Mason and Manhattan, falling to the Patriots, 6-1, on Saturday before holding on for a 5-2 win against the Jaspers on Sunday. Against its league foe, Monmouth's top two doubles flights won its matches to earn the point, while Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio) and Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) captured singles victories to lead the Hawks to the win.

On Sunday, Armendariz, teaming up with Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset), earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Caitlin Bricketto and Alyssa Rosello, while Kauffman, paired with Farrah Smoke (Belmar, N.J./Manasquan [Brookdale C.C.]), cruised to an 8-1 win over Gabriella Leon and Diana Onichshenko to clinch the point.

In singles play, Armendariz earned her second victory in as many days, holding off Leon 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1. Playing No. 4, Kauffman eased her way to a win, blanking Onichshenko, 6-0, 6-0 for her fourth victory of the season.

On Saturday against George Mason, Armendariz captured the lone point for the Blue and White. The newcomer opened play against Jane Awad with a 7-6 victory before dropping the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, and in the decisive third set, Armendariz cruised to an eight-point win, 10-2.

Monmouth returns to action on Monday, April 13th when it hosts Saint Francis Brooklyn at 3:30 p.m. at the MU Tennis Courts. Prior to the match, the Hawks will honor its seniors with its annual Senior Day celebration, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
