FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Senior Farrah Smoke (Belmar, N.J./Manasquan [Brookdale C.C.]) and sophomore Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) rallied from down 5-2 to win their No. 2 doubles match, but the Monmouth University women's tennis team fell to Fairfield, 7-0, Thursday afternoon in league play.
After falling behind by three, Smoke and Kauffman took the next three games to even the score at 5-5. The duo and their counterparts, Nicole Aragones and Sarah Stuhlmann, exchanged points to land in a tiebreaker, which Monmouth won 7-3. The No. 1 tandem of senior Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) and sophomore Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio) had its comeback halted, falling 8-4 after starting the match down 7-0.
Monmouth returns to action on Saturday, April 11th when it takes on George Mason in a non-conference tilt at noon.
