Following Game 1 between La Salle and Norfolk State, the Hawks will face former league foe St. Francis Brooklyn. Monmouth is coming off an 81-75 setback on the road at another former conference rival, Fairleigh Dickinson, on Dec. 20. Meanwhile, the Terriers got back into the win column with a 64-54 victory over Loyola on Dec. 22.
SCOUTING THE ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN TERRIERSSt. Francis is led by Leah Fechko, who's averaged 13.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals on the year, including a near-triple-double against Loyola with 12 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists in the full 40 minutes. Alex Delaney saw her first action of the year two games ago and has averaged 7.5 points, while Maria Palarino (7.1 ppg.) and Olivia Levey (7.0 ppg.) are close behind in the scoring column. The Terriers graduated five seniors, including four starters, and more than 72 percent of its scoring and 55 percent of its rebounding from a team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYNThe Hawks have dominated the all-time series against the Terriers to the tune of a 51-5 advantage. Monmouth won the first 23 games in the series and, most recently, has taken the last 11 pairings, including a 51-47 victory in the last meeting on Feb. 16, 2013.
LAST TIME OUTMonmouth mounted a pair of significant comebacks, including an 11-0 run to close out the third quarter, but a 17-point third-quarter deficit was too much to overcome in an 81-75 defeat at intrastate foe Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 20.
Dana Carbone scored 14 of her career-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, hit four three-point field goals and made a career-high three steals on the night.
Sarah Olson added 16 points, while
Jasmine Walker had 13 points, five assists and five rebounds.
Christina Mitchell posted her fourth double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
