WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF KAYLA SHAW

Throughout this week, we'll introduce you to the newest additions to the Monmouth University Women's Basketball family. The Hawks recently signed six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2016-17 season.

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University Women's Basketball Head Coach Jenny Palmateer has announced the signing of Kayla Shaw (Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparral) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Hawks for the 2016-17 season. Shaw is a 5-foot-10 guard for Coach Brian Porth at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, AZ. She's earned a three-star rating with an 88 grade on ESPN.com as the No. 90 player at her position. She's developed a reputation as a sharpshooter, having shot 59.5 percent (184-309) from the floor and 52.4 percent (75-143) from long range, while averaging 21.1 points per game last season. Her three-point percentage ranked third in the nation last year.

"Kayla Shaw comes to us from Arizona and we're really, really excited to have her join us," said Palmateer. "She is going to be our three-point bomber. No question. She shoots an unbelievable percentage from the three-point line. She's scored 1,000 points in high school as a junior and will definitely be filling the shooting role for us when she joins us as a freshman next year."

Shaw has led the Firebirds to the Sweet 16 of the Arizona State Playoffs twice, while also guiding Chaparral to the Elite 8 as a sophomore. Already a 1,000-point scorer, she has earned All-State Honorable Mention, All-Division I Section II First and Second Team honors and the All-City Award twice. She also earned AZ Central American Family Insurance All-USA Arizona Girls Basketball Performer of the Week this past January and was named to the All-Tournament Team at both the Highland Tournament and the GCU Team Camp. Shaw earned Team MVP as a junior after being named her team's Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore.
