WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's tennis team won the doubles point and five-of-six singles flights en route to a 6-1 victory over hOURglass rival Rider Wednesday afternoon at the MU Tennis Complex.
Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio [Maryville]),
Chioma Gabriel (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway),
Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North),
Maria Ivanova (Moscow, Russia/IMG Academy) and
Rayne Ruoff (Reading, PA/Exeter Twp Sr.) were each credited with victories at both singles and doubles for Monmouth.
Monmouth got things started with a pair of doubles wins, while also taking a victory by forfeit at No. 3. Armendariz paired with
Alexandra Graff (Bastad, Sweden/IMG Academy) to defeat Vanessa Canda and Caitlin Gardner, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles. Kauffman and Ivanova also took a 6-1 doubles win over Danielle Scrudato and Kelli Swanson at No. 2. Ruoff and Gabriel were credited with the win by forfeit at No. 3.
Armendariz made quick work of Canda, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Gabriel also cruised past Scrudato, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. Kauffman defeated Swanson, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4, while Ivanova battled to earn a 6-4, 7-6 (1), victory over Aleesha Rouse at No. 5. Ruoff took the point at No. 6 by forfeit.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, when they travel to Drexel. Matches are set to begin at 11 a.m.
