WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University women's tennis team fell to visiting Sacred Heart, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon at the MU Tennis Courts. The Hawks, who fall to 0-3 on the year, nearly took the doubles point, but the Pioneers, who captured their first win of the year, held off the Blue and White before sweeping all six singles matches.

Freshman Adriana Armendariz (Pamplona, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio) and senior Farrah Smoke (Belmar, N.J./Manasquan [Brookdale C.C.]), playing No. 1 doubles, forced a tiebreaker but Katie DeRienzo and Lindsey Post held off the tandem, 8-7 (6), while Emma Pezzullo and Claudia Ruiz edged sophomore Robyn Belen (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) and senior Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset), 8-6, to clinch the point. In singles play, Smoke, looking for her third straight singles win at No. 4, fell in the opening set, 6-1, and nearly forced decisive third set, but ultimately fell, 7-5.

The Hawks will look to get into the win column when the host La Salle on Monday, October 6th, at 3:30 p.m. at the MU Tennis Courts.
