Box Score SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Monmouth University men's soccer team limited Seton Hall to just seven shots, including only two on goal, but fell to the Pirates, 1-0, Tuesday night on Owen T. Carroll Field. With the loss, the Hawks wrap up non-conference play at 4-2-1, while Seton Hall improves to 2-2-2.
The Pirates got on the board in the 33rd minute as Kai Greene and Bolu Akinyode connected passes into the 18-yard box to Victor Manosalvas. Manosalvas collected the ball eight yards out from the right post and finished inside the opposite post past Monmouth goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky. The Hawks outshot the Pirates, 7-4, in the first half, but couldn't find the equalizer.
In the second half, the Hawks kept the pressure on, firing off six more shots. Dom Sarle's (Huntington, N.Y./Bradenton Prep) header in the 57th minute went wide left, while Sarle's header off a David Acuna Camacho (Heredia, Costa Rica/Costa Rica Youth National Team) corner in the 75th minute was saved by Seton Hall keeper Julian Spindler.
Klenofsky kept the game tied with a diving save on a Manosalvas shot from atop the 18-yard box in the 78th minute. A minute later, Dan Pizzimenti's (Manalapan, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) shot was saved by Spindler. Sarle got off one last shot in the 83rd minute, but it sailed high.
Spindler earned the win in net for Seton Hall, collecting four saves. Klenofsky made one save in defeat.
The Hawks begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play a week from tonight, Sept. 30, when they host Canisius. Kickoff from Hesse Field on The Great Lawn is slated for 7 p.m.
