HAMDEN, Conn. – The Monmouth University women's tennis team fell in straight sets to Quinnipiac University, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the QU Outdoor Tennis Center. With the defeat, the Hawks fall to 5-15 on the year and 1-6 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, while the Bobcats improve to 10-10 overall and remain unbeaten in league play as they clinch at least a share of the regular season title.
QU earned the doubles point, scoring victories in all three matches before earning wins in the six singles matches. Freshman Chioma Gabriel (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) nearly forced a third set in her No. 5 tilt with Mary Chupa, but ultimately fell 6-0, 6-4.
The Blue and White returns home Friday, April 18th as it welcomes intrastate rival Seton Hall to the MU Tennis Courts for a non-conference tilt. Prior to the match, which is slated for noon, the Hawks will honor its lone senior, Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown, N.J./St. John Vianney), beginning at 11:30 a.m.
