WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. –Monmouth senior hurdler Jalen Walker (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township/BCIT) was named MAAC Track Performer of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Walker is the third Hawk this season to earn MAAC weekly honors, joining Ben Boyd (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Central) and Taylor Bernstein (Pine Brook, N.J./Montville Township) who earned accolades last week.
"Jalen is off to a great start and put together a great hurdle race on Sunday,” said Head Coach Joe Compagni. “It is always a plus to get the IC4A qualifying standard behind you in December as Jalen did. We are looking forward to 2015 for him and the rest of the team."
Walker helped Monmouth to a team victory at Sunday's 6th Annual MAC Classic, winning the 60 meter hurdles with an IC4A qualifying time of 8.17 seconds, edging teammate Geordan Ferguson. Walker also competed in the 60 meter dash, placing fourth among MU competitors. Monmouth's men posted 179 points to top Wagner and Saint Peter's at the first home meet of the season.
Walker and Monmouth return to the track after a brief hiatus on Friday, January 9th for the Rutgers Invitational.
