FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Monmouth University women's tennis team fell to Sacred Heart, 6-1, Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Robyn Belen (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) scored the Hawks' lone point as the Blue and White fall to 1-3 on the year, while the Pioneers earned their first win in their opening dual match of the season.

Playing No. 6 singles, Belen scored a 6-1, 6-4 victory over her counterpart Maggie Tooley. The Hawks nearly took the doubles point for the fourth straight match as the No. 1 doubles team of Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown, N.J./St. John Vianney) and Farrah Smoke (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./Manasquan (Brookdale C.C.)) defeated Katie DeRienzo and Lindsey Post, 8-6, but SHU's Paige Olson and Haley Dubits held off Kendal Kauffman (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Belen, 8-5, and Gabi Kaldan and Taylor Gurda downed Ashley Sandler and Chioma Gabriel, 8-2, to steal the point.

Monmouth returns to the courts on Thursday, October 10th, as it hosts Wagner at 3:30 p.m. at the MU Tennis Courts.
