NEW BRITAIN, CONN. - For a second straight season, the Monmouth University women's soccer team opened its Northeast Conference schedule with a shutout road victory, as the Hawks posted a 1-0 win at Central Connecticut State on Friday night. In the win, sophomore Alexa Freguletti (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) nodded home the game-winner in the 12th minute for her second goal of the year, and second in as many games.

"Tonight was the best we have played all season," stated head coach Krissy Turner. "It was a terrific way to start our conference matches."

With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the league, posting the 100th victory in Northeast Conference play in program history.

About hitting the century mark in program wins, Turner added, "Monmouth has been an elite program in the NEC since its inception and we look forward to continuing that into the future."

Freguletti, the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Week, put the Hawks ahead in the 12th minute, heading in a corner kick service into the bottom right corner of the cage from junior Dana Costello (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), who registered her team-leading 12th point on the year.

"We have talked about being a force on the road and tonight we demonstrated our potential," commented Freguletti, who notched the game-winning tally against Robert Morris in 2011. "Dana [Costello] served a great ball and I timed it right to put it away."

Monmouth, which held a 12-2 advantage in shots in the first half alone, outshot the Blue Devils 15-6 in the match, forcing CCSU goalkeeper Nikola Deiter to make six saves. Monmouth netminder sophomore Jocelyn McCoy (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) made five stops for the Hawks for the second clean sheet of the year for Monmouth.

The Hawks also held a 7-3 edge in corner kick opportunites, capitalizing on the first one of the match.

Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, when the Hawks host Bryant University on The Great Lawn at 1:00 p.m.
