The Monmouth University women's basketball team concludes action in
the Navy Classic Saturday, when it challenges East Carolina in the consolation
game. The Hawks fell to High Point, 81-74, on Friday, while the Pirates were
defeated by the host Midshipmen, 57-48.
LAST TIME OUT

Paalvast scored a career-high 22 points and Abigail Martin scored all 15 of her
points in the second half, but the Hawks were defeated by High Point, 81-74,
Friday afternoon at Alumni Hall. Alysha Womack added 19 points for the Hawks,
who erased a 13-point first-half deficit, but High Point responded with a
devastating 15-1 run to seal the victory.
SCOUTING THE EAST
CAROLINA PIRATES
The
Pirates are led by twin sisters Whitny and Britny Edwards, who've averaged an
identical 11.7 per game. Britny has the slight edge in rebounding at 7.7 boards
per game to Whitny's 7.0 rebounds per contest. Britny is a terrific shot
blocker at 2.1 rejections per game, while Whitny also plays solid defense at
2.3 steals per game. Celeste Stewart leads the Pirates in assists with 4.4 per
game, while also chipping in with 7.7 points per game. Kyani White leads ECU at
3.4 steals per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. EAST CAROLINA
The
Hawks and Pirates met for the first time last Nov. 30 in Greenville, N.C., with
East Carolina taking a 75-52 victory. All-time against teams currently in
Conference USA, the Hawks are 4-4. Monmouth posted a pair of wins against UCF
(2-1), while also defeating Marshall (1-0) and UTEP (1-0). In addition to the
losses to ECU and UCF, Monmouth has fallen twice to Rice (0-2).
