WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University women's tennis team rallied for a 4-2 victory over Northeast Conference foe Wagner, Thursday afternoon at the MU Tennis Courts. After dropping the doubles point, the Blue and White took four of five singles matches, while the sixth singles event ended early due to darkness.
Nicole Lippens (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) blanked Rachel Jurgielewicz, 6-0, 6-0 at first singles to capture her first victory of the season, while Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown, N.J./St. John Vianney) edged Nicole Vukov, 6-3, 7-5, at second singles. Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Nikki Arnold and Dana Ferrari (Saddle Brook, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) captured the Hawks' fourth point with her 6-0, 6-1 win over Jenna Harris to clinch the victory. Freshman Emily Ellis (Richmond, Mass./Lenox) recorded her first set win in a MU uniform, holding off Lauren Hauer, 6-4, in the second set, but the match was halted due to darkness before the decisive third set.
Sandler and Ferrari also teamed up in doubles action for an 8-4 victory over Wagner's Harris and Hauer.
Monmouth will open up its spring schedule on April 6, 2013 with a NEC battle against Saint Francis (Pa.) in West Long Branch.
