Monmouth University's women's tennis team fell to instate rival Rider
University by a score of 6-1 Tuesday night.
Rider earned wins at the top two doubles positions to take the team point but
the freshman duo of Liz D'Arcy (Colonia, N.J./Wardlaw-Hartridge) and Sarah
Turner (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison) got their first dual match doubles
victory of their careers with a 8-2 win over Broncs Jaclyn Giameo and Maria
Eldridge.
Fellow freshman Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) won her No. 2 singles
slot by a 6-0, 6-1 score over Rider's Tricia Ashmore. Junior Nicole Lippens (West Long Branch,
N.J./Shore Regional) lost a hard fought battle at the top singles spot,
eventually falling to Marly Roche, 6-3, 6-4.
The Hawks, now 0-4 on the young season, will play in the NJAIAW Tournament this
upcoming weekend.
