ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Monmouth University women's tennis competed last
weekend at the Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational, hosted by Navy and at Loyola
on Sunday.
Freshman Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) had the best outing at the
Invitational, winning a consolation match.
The field was filled with some of the top teams in the Northeast and a
youthful Hawks squad had a difficult time finding victories.
Monmouth fell to 0-3 on the season with a 7-0 loss to Loyola College on Sunday. Sandler and sophomore Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown,
N.J./St. John Vianney) won four games each in their first sets but eventually
fell in the second set. The Greyhounds
also swept the doubles matches, leading to the 7-0 score.
MU will look to rebound tomorrow when it visits Rider University on
Tuesday. It will be the fourth MAAC
school the team has faced so far in 2011.
