WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University women's
tennis team earned its first win of the spring season on Monday afternoon with
a 4-3 victory over La Salle at the MU Tennis Courts.
Sophomore Dana Ferrari's (Saddlebrook, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) 6-2, 7-6
(6) win over Leah Garrison in the No. 3 singles spot clinched the one point
victory for the Hawks. Freshman Brooke
Verdiglione (Englishtown, N.J./St. John Vianney) defeated Elli Vamvakitis at
the No. 2 singles slot (6-2, 6-4) and junior Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls,
N.J./Monmouth Regional) got another singles win with a 6-3, 6-3, win in the
sixth singles match.
The Hawks dominated doubles earlier in the day, sweeping all three matches for
the team point. Nicole Lippens (West
Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) and Verdiglione took an 8-3 victory at the
No. 1 doubles position while Tierney and Reciel Arribe (Hillsborough,
N.J./Hillsborough) picked up an 8-4 win at the No. 2 spot. Ferrari and Slinger cruised to an 8-1 victory
at the No. 3 position.
