The Monmouth University women's basketball team embarks on the final weekend of the 2010-11 regular season with a couple of Northeast Conference clashes in Connecticut, eyeing the chance to clinch a league tournament home game. The Hawks begin their two-game excursion through the Nutmeg State on Saturday when they visit Sacred Heart in a pivotal conference clash. MU, along with the
Pioneers and Long Island, is tied for second in the NEC entering the season's final two games, and all three schools are seeking to earn a top-four seed and subsequent home game in the conference quarterfinals. With their 19 wins, the Hawks have now won their most games in a season since the 1987-88 campaign.
LAST TIME OUT
Monmouth defeated first-place Saint Francis University, 60-51, in a key conference game on Monday evening at the Multipurpose Activity Center. The Hawks, who seized control of the game with a 14-2 run to begin the second half, were lead by Erin Rooney and Alexis Canady, who each scored 14 points. Rooney added a season-high seven assists and four steals, while Canady connected on four three's and pulled down eight rebounds. Abby Martin added 13 points and eight boards for Monmouth, which kept pace in the hunt for a home game in the upcoming NEC Tournament.

Sacred Heart junior Callan Taylor recorded her NEC-leading 10th double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds as the SHU women's basketball team picked up a road win over Central Connecticut State Monday night. Maggie Cosgrove sank 8-of-10 attempts from the free throw line to fi nish with 14 points along with a game high eight assists.
