The Monmouth University women's basketball team hosts first-place Saint Francis University in its final home game of the 2010-11 season on Monday evening. The Hawks and Red Flash have each already clinched postseason berths, with MU eyeing a Northeast Conference Tournament Quarterfinal home game and the Red Flash seeking the league's regular season title. Monmouth is currently in a four-way tie for second place in the conference along with Long Island, Sacred Heart and Robert Morris. MU defeated Saint Francis earlier this season in Loretto, 75-68.
LAST TIME OUT
Monmouth defeated Robert Morris University, 64-55 in Northeast Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks have now won three straight league contests, while the Colonials have now dropped three straight NEC affairs for just the third time since the 2004-05 season. MU led by as many as 15 points with 14:58 left in the second half en route to the win. The contest featured seven lead changes and four ties, all in the first half. Erin Rooney paced the Hawks with a career-best 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Alysha Womack added 17 points and four steals in the contest.
FLASHING LIGHTS
Saint Francis lost just its third league game of the season on Saturday, falling at Fairleigh Dickinson, 62-58. FDU held an edge for most of the contest, building a first-half 11-point lead and claimed a game-high 13-point lead at the 16:34 mark of the second period. The Red Flash shot 31.3 percent (21-for-67) on the game, while the Knights fired at a 38.3 percent (23-for-60) clip. FDU out-rebounded Saint Francis, 46-43. Senior Samantha Leach was the offensive star for SFU, pouring in 25 points. She also pulled down a game- and career-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
