SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Monmouth
University's women's tennis team recorded a pair of 7-0 defeats at the hands of
Bryant and University of Rhode Island over the weekend.
The Hawks dropped all three doubles matches against both URI and Bryant.
In the Bryant match, junior Dana Ferrari (Saddle Brook, N.J./Immaculate Heart
Academy) kept in it with a 6-2, 6-4 match to May Vickers at the No. 3 singles
spot. Sophomore Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown,
N.J./St. John Vianney) won two games in each of her sets, eventually falling to
Bulldog Lucy Bird, 6-2, 6-2.
The following day against Rhode Island, Verdiglione forced a second set super
set at the No. 2 singles spot against
Kristen Leikem. Leikem eventually won
the 6-4, 7-5 affair for the Rams.
Monmouth returns home to face Fairleigh Dickinson on October 11, in a match
that was rescheduled due to weather.
