FAIRFIELD, Conn.- Monmouth University's women's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of it's schedule with a 6-1 loss at the hands of Sacred Heart on Tuesday.
The Pioneers took all three doubles matches to earn the team point in the Northeast Conference matchup.
Freshman Sarah Turner (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Jefferson) closed out the fall with a win at the No. 6 spot over Kristin Legenza, battling back from a 4-6 first set loss to win the next two 6-4, 10-5. Sophomore Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown, N.J./St. John Vianney) gave Kate Donnelly all she could handle, winning the first set 6-2 but falling 6-3, 10-5 at the No. 2 singles spot. Rookie Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) fell behind at the No. 3 slot to Nicole Rydzewski 6-0 but almost came back to win the second set, eventually falling 10-5.
"Sarah Turner played a great match," said head coach Patrice Murray. "She hit a lot of balls and stayed mentally tough the entire time. Brooke played a strong second set and lost in a 10 point super tiebreaker. Sandler settled in during the second set and had chances to win that set."
The Hawks, missing senior Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) for most of the fall due to injury, finish the fall with a 1-9 dual record.
