VILLANOVA, PA. - The Monmouth University women's soccer team dropped its third straight one-goal decision with a 1-0 double overtime loss to Towson University in the final game of the 2010 Villanova Classic, on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks, who are receiving votes for the third straight week in the NSCAA national poll, fall to 4-3 on the season.
"This was a difficult weekend to come down to Villanova and lose both games in overtime," stated head coach Krissy Turner. "With extra effort in both games, the results may have been different."
After a scoreless 104 minutes of play, the Tigers' Emily Banes found Cheyenne Skidmore for the game-winner in the 105th minute, following a Monmouth foul.
Monmouth and Towson (4-3-2) each fired 14 shots in the match, while senior Lia Fierro made four saves for the Hawks. Jocelyn Papciak made six saves in goal for the Tigers. Senior Gianna Russo fired four shots for Monmouth, while Stacy Kadell, Jennie Vartebedian and Courtney Snyder each attempted two shots apiece.
Despite the pair of one-goal losses in extra time, the Hawks placed three players on the All-Tournament Team, as Fierro, Vartebeidan and Mary Wilks all were honored.
Villanova (2-0) claimed the tournament title.
