Monmouth University's women's tennis team (0-1) opened the fall season with a 4-3
loss to Saint Peter's (1-0) on Friday afternoon.
The Peahens won three singles points along with the doubles point to edge the
Hawks in the marathon match which took over five hours to complete.
Monmouth's tandem of Brooke Vediglione and Reciel Arribe (Hillsborough,
N.J./Hillsborough) earned the Hawks' lone doubles win, edging Peahen's Alex
Livingston and Ivanna Grbelja, 8-6.
Verdiglione toppled Krysten Chen in the No. 2 singles match, 6-4, 6-2 while
junior Britney Dupuis (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) battled to a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3
victory at the No. 3 slot over Linnea Enoh-Jansoon. Sophomore Shelby Goldman (West Hempstead,
N.Y./West Hempstead) also earned a hard-fought win at the fifth singles match,
defeating Jessica Nowogrodzki 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
The Hawks will look for their first win of the season on Sunday, when they face
Manhattan at home at noon.
