HAMDEN, CONN. - The Monmouth University women's soccer team, which scored a pair of goals in 1:14 of action in the second half, earned a 2-1 victory at Quinnipiac in Northeast Conference action on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks improve to 7-4-1 overall, and 2-1-1 in league play.
"This was a good result for us on the road," commented head coach Krissy Turner. "We created some terrific opportunities and put two away."
After a scoreless opening half, Monmouth got on the scoreboard in the 76th minute, when senior Mary Wilks fed junior Courtney Snyder for her third score of the season. The Hawks quickly made the score 2-0, when junior Jennie Vartebedian notched a score off a deflection, just 1:14 later.
The Bobcats (3-5-2, 1-1-2 NEC) trimmed the lead in half, 2-1, in the 83rd minute, when a corner kick service from Furtuna Velaj found Meagan McLoughlin in front of the net for her second tally of the year.
Monmouth outshot Quinnipiac 17-11 in the match, including 13-6 in the second half, forcing QU goalkeeper Jillian Kelley to make eight saves for the Bobcats. Monmouth senior Lia Fierro made three saves in goal for the Hawks.
Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, October 10, when the Hawks travel to Central Connecticut State in Northeast Conference action at 3:00 p.m.
