WOMEN'S TENNIS EDGES RIDER, 4-3

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University's women's tennis team earned a hard fought 4-3 victory over cross-state rival Rider on Tuesday afternoon.

The Hawks dropped three of the six singles sets, but it was senior Diane Washer's (Ogdensville, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) fifth singles win almost in the complete dark which proved to be the difference maker.  Washer defeated Bronc Allison Clay 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 to seal Monmouth's first team win victory of the season.

Freshman Dana Farrari (Saddlebrook, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy), playing in the No. 4 singles spot, defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1 while sophomore Britney Dupuis (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) won the sixth slot by a tally of 6-1, 6-1.

Earlier in the match, Monmouth took the second and third doubles pairings to earn the team point.  Washer teamed with sophomore Jessica Slinger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) to down the Bronc pairing of Kristina Paich and Alexa Manforti 9-7 at the No. 2 doubles spot.  Farrari and Kelly Friedrich (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) topped their opponents at the No. 3 slot by a score of 8-4.

The Hawks (1-2), return to action tomorrow when they face another Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe, St. Peter's, at Fireman's Field in Ocean Township.   The match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
